I have a question about hard drive firmware.

I was wondering if formatting a hard drive erases a firmware upgrade. I want to update my SSD firmware and then reinstall OS X.

I guess I'll just format the drive and install OS X, then try to reinstall the SSD firmware and if it says it's updated already, then great.

Firmware is not installed on the hard drive so reformats have no effect on any firmware changes you may have made.

Onto a programmable EEPROM right on the drive motherboard. Nothing you ever need to think about, until you upgrade the firmware.
