Hi,
I have the following problem:
I wanted to connect a second monitor (Acer 23 "LED 1080p).
When I connect it only goes to 1280x1024 resolution.
When I connect the screen resolution is 1280x1024.
Then I go to system settings -> Monitore, then put the resolution to 1920x1080
the screen goes black, I have to disconnect the screen connect again
then it works
every restart I have to do that
What can I do?

That's just how VGA works.

Macs don't even use VGA, so its good enough that we have that.

After you set the screen to 1080p sleep and wake. (DO NOT DISCONNECT). Screen will show 1080p. After that restart. Every time you connect your VGA screen it will revert to your configuration.

You connect it via HDMI. The HDMI works perfect, the guys before are talking about VGA port.

Can the 4530s be used as a "desktop replacement" in clamshell mode; i.e., plugging in USB keyboard + mouse in addition to external monitor and close the laptop lid?

Yes you can, but you need an application to prevent your laptop of going to sleep when you close the lid. This app's name is NoSleep.

Thank you both very much! :headbang:

Looks like this could be a desktop replacement equivalent to the CustoMac Mini.

Were you able to get the 4530 to stay awake? I have a keyboard/mouse and external monitor hooked up. I have tried no sleep and caffeine, but with both the mac goes to sleep and I have to power it down and back up to get it to work again. Any ideas or other solutions?

I think I used to use Insomnia, can't remember as it's been a long time
