How To: Build your own "Real" Airport Card

So i've bought 2 pci-e adapters, and 2 cards in the last month and none of them seem to be working right. It says i have 4 bars but the highest transfer rate i've received is around 80kb/s. It's mostly around 30kb/s. I know theres something seriously wrong. One of them was an off brand card, and now i have an Apple branded one. Am i just getting the wrong pci-e adapter?

my wifi is really slow too. my bars also stay at 4 even when i know it should be lower. my card is an apple branded as well. when you opt-click the wifi menu item what does your transmit rate say? mine ranges from 1-11...usually 5 or less.. it is like this in windows 7 as well

what pci-e adapter did you get?

no you are fine if you have an Apple Branded card this is for people that have a
Broadcom BCM94322MC Mini PCI-e Card 487330-001 with AirDrop OOB that is not apple branded and they want to rebrand to Apple AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8E).

for pci-e adapter you can look at
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Mini+P ... m270.l1313

For $23 total including shipping just installed wifi on my CustoMac with these two easy pieces OOB:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0715525139
(MacBook Broadcom OEM card)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0442556047

Throughput seems decent, no numbers yet. But it feels a tad better than the pure Apple Airport cards I have in my Mac Pro and PowerMac G5.
I customarily use wired ethernet, but I also like having wifi in the tower to check & troubleshoot the WLAN.

With the money and time I saved I can now afford a visit to a good barber instead of pulling my hair out.

Hi Everyone!

I'm fairly new to the hackintosh world, however, I managed to get a fully working hackintosh on 10.6.8. I have got everything working and my system is rock solid (QE/CI, sleep, wakeup, etcetera)

My computer is this:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... uct=426501

My specifications are:
ASUS PTGD1-LA
Intel Pentium 4 2.80GHz
EVGA GeForce 8400GS
2.5 GB RAM

I want to make an airport extreme card for my hackintosh, however, this motherboard only has 1 PCIe x16 and 3 PCI Slots. The PCIe x16 is being used by the graphics card and the other 3 PCI Slots are open. My question is that is there any way I could install an airport extreme on a PCI slot with a miniPCIe to PCI adapter? If yes, then can you please link me to one? If no, then are there any PCI Wireless Cards that work with 10.6.8.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Bought items for my 2nd one of these ... building Hac for my daughters to use for school. Got the following items:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0501831715
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0547719964

$35 total for both with free shipping. Both shipping from USA so it should save time over my previous Hong Kong order.

Chris

Cool! Because the wifi card is Apple OEM 4321, this should work OOB.
btw, I see eBay's Buy It Now prices are currently $10 PCIe adapter & $15 wifi card = only $25 total ?

Oops ... Typo'd that. $25 is what I paid.

Chris
