I got a 660Ti yesterday and have the same problems and errors messages when i try to run FCPX. It seems to happen once i apply an effect and it begins to render.I have to hold the power button on the computer to shut it down and restart it.

Code:

Could this be because there is no native GPU power management for this card?

Could you try to see if you modify the driver for the OpenCL fix. Just curious if that may fix it. I know the log mentions only OpenGL but might still be worth a try. I don't have my GA-Z77X-UP5 TH board yet. I get it Wednesday and once I do I can try it to. I just bought the EVGA 660ti and hope we don't have another card that is unsupported with certain apps?

If so I rather return it now before I open it and get a 680 instead. I wonder if this could also happen with the 680?

I will try my EVGA 640 first before I open the 660ti.

OpenCL fix has no effect. Same problem (as expected since it appears to be an OpenGL problem, not OpenCL)

I will try my EVGA 640 card Wednesday and let you know. I have FCPX version 10.5. I started a post to see if anyone with 670/680 cards could also test to see.

The 640 is the GK107 chip, which is the same as the 650m in the Macbook Pro so it might work perfectly. The 660Ti, 670, 680 are the GK104. I'm still interested in hearing what you find but won't be surprised if you don't see the issue.

I did not know that. I thought they all used the same Kepler Processor. So you cannot get a high end Kepler Card that uses the GK107 processor?

try to use MacPro 3.1 cuz it will avoid AGPM !!
does GT 640 have this issue too ???

Ok now we're getting somewhere. If i use MacPro3,1 , i no longer get the system crash in FCPX. So that's good news. However, it doesn't appear to be using OpenGL at all while rendering, just the pure CPU. Is that normal or should it be using GPU for effects rendering?

So now the question is, what do i lose by using MacPro3,1 over iMac12,2. Well, i know i lose turbo states in my processor. It just stays set at the multiplier (which i have set to 40 = 4Ghz). Any other downsides to using MacPro3,1?

I'm also going to try uninstalling FCPX and reinstalling. Someone reported on another thread that that worked.

UPDATE: Well, i spoke to soon. While rendering a different effect the screen froze, i got an NVDA error in the console, but this time the system actually recovered and i could continue working on the computer. So not completely solved yet but a little bit better.

P.S. Anyone know how to get rid of that darn square artifact in the top left corner of the login window?
