When I try to install additional OS x, I remove the one that OS x is already installed. Then install the new/different OS x on another NVME or SATA drive to make sure it installs completely and everything functions normal.
In this case, I would suggest removing the NVME from the MB, then install another OS x on SATA drive. If everything goes well, I mean everything, then reinstall NVME, then setup the boot priority in BIOS.
