HDMI not working to connect to external monitor

Using Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4712MQ CPU @ 2.30Hz

I'm not sure what to do, still a beginner at this... Why is it not detecting my screen? Is it a problem with the laptop or can i fix this by using a converter and plugging it in usb
