[Guide] Z97MX-Gaming 5 | i7 4790K | GTX 970 G1 | OS X 10.11

Hi guys I seem to have ran into a problem, I've followed the guide to a tee and installed the graphics card once everything else was done, but as soon as I put it back in after initialising the drives, the display is slightly stretched and I have graphical glitches here there and everywhere, it also seems to have removed the option to have any input or outputs for sound. I'm really stumped
Not sure about sound. When you click on the Nvidia icon in the menubar does it still show that the Nvidia drivers are selected, or is it going back to default OS X drivers every boot?

Thank you so much for a well written guide. This is my first build and i can't believe it went so smooth, no hiccup with the build, the install & the post install...all major items checked...sound with HDMI, return from sleep with sound, PM, iMessage, AirDrop, Apple Keyboard/mouse, App Store, etc. However, I have notice 1 issue that i cannot find any solution for the past days and am pulling my hair out, or whats left =)) Continuity!!

Can you please let me know if that is working or not, or any known solutions?

This is what i have in mine:(pretty much CustoMac mATX
El Capitan
Z97mx-Gaming 5 with F6
32 GB Crucial Ballistix
i7-4790K
1TB Samsun 850 EVO
OSX WiFi/BT Card

Appreciate any input to get Continuity working.....

I am considering buying the same graphic card.
Did you managed to play games without lag or anything with the 970? :)

Does short sleep work ok but long sleep breaks it? Have you see this on the common issues page?

Short Sleep works OK, Long Sleep ("standby") causes reboot
Not applicable if any sleep at all causes problems.

  • Run this at a terminal to disable standby:
    Code:
    sudo pmset -a standby 0 && sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
  • Now sleep and wake should work, it will just never go into the deeper-sleep standby mode. Perhaps that will mean using trivially more power. Oh, well.

So I tried this on mine and works sometimes, but at other times when it comes out of sleep it crashes open apps. Anyone else have any suggestions then would be greatly appreciated (normal sleep still works great btw).

I think this is a known issue with Gigabyte motherboards. There is a long thread on memory corruption with Gigabyte motherboards. Just out of curiosity, how many sticks of RAM do you have installed and how much RAM altogether?

Has anyone with this setup upgraded to 10.11.4? The upgrade was very smooth from the app store but i am experiencing random restarts now. I didn't see and KP screen, it just blacks out without warning and out of no where. During restart, it behaves as it was just powered up. aAy suggestions?

Got a KP screen and this is what the report looks like,

I dont know what i am looking at, can someone shine a light???

I get KPs when I enable XMP in BIOS and when the computer wakes from sleep. How many sticks of RAM are you using? If 4 then try using only 2 and see if KPs occur. Sleep will definitely cause KPs as there is an issue with Z97 series Gigabyte motherboards and memory corruption. There is a big thread on here about this issue.
