Indeed I am, sorry I should have perhaps stated that earlier.
I have also just finished reading through both of the text files as well.

I have now removed the AtiConfig and AtiPorts lines from the plist as well as set GraphicsEnabler=No then rebooted.
No change. Still showing a fixed resolution of 1400x1050.
I am very confused. Why are things getting worse?
Should I try re-install Chimera again?

All I can think of is your are missing a patched kext from your previous install.

Also I see you are using a Sandy Bridge CPU which really requires OS X Lion to be fully supported.

I tried to install Mountain Lion and that was when my troubles began.
I have no idea why this now got even worse.
You don't think the graphics card has become faulty do you?

Just booted from iBoot with options.....
GraphicsEnabler=Yes AtiConfig=Gibba AtiPorts=4
.....and I get everything back, but in system info it shows.....
ATI Radeon HD NI40

Mmmmm.......

OK....this mystery may never get solved. I have just started installing Mountain Lion. For the installation I have taken out the XFX 6850 ( as recommended ) , but unlike last time I am not using the intel integrated graphics. I have stuck an nVidia 9800 GT into the computer. I know it's a dated card and I replaced many moons ago, but I got all nostalgic and instead of selling it on eBay I kept it. I am now glad that I did for as I write this on the iPad Mountain Lion is happily installing.
When all is said and done the G92 is the most solid and reliable GPU I have ever known.
I will however switch back to the ATI card once installation is complete.
Fingers crossed.

Well I now have Mountain Lion installed and everything is showing Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6850 1024 MB. Or at least it was until I realized I could not login to iMessage. So.... I remembered that I had trouble before connecting to the Apps store and that my built-in ethernet was the issue. I also remembered the entering the following in to my plist solved it........

<key>device-properties</key>
<string>4b00000001000000010000003f00000001000000 02 010c00d041030a0100000001010600061c0101060000007fff 0400160000006200750069006c0074002d0069006e00000005 00000001</string>

After reboot everything starts showing AMD Radeon HD 6xxx or some thing like that. This time though the above string did not fix anything so I removed it and rebooted.
What do you know? My system is back to showing AMD Radeon HD 6850 1024 MB once more.
Mystery solved.
Incidentally I can login to the Apps Store just not iMessage, but that's a problem for another day. If this helps anyone else then great.
Good night one and all. I'm off to bed.
