ok so i went to ebay in search of a "AMD Radeon HD 6850",
i discover there are lots of graphics cards that have "AMD Radeon HD 6850" in their name and they all seem to be different brands eg, msi, gigabyte, sapphire, etc etc etc

are they all the same thing? does it matter which i buy?

thanks and sorry for being dumb :)

They are mostly the same thing. Some companies like Gigabyte or Asus do sometimes over clock, but then they name it different (OCed or Superclocked in name).

Is an overclocked graphics card that much better? Can you do that sort of thing on Hackintoshes?

Not really. You won't get 5x more power of your GPU if you overclock. Top GPUs can overclock around 10-15% and this only for couple of FPS in games, that you normally don't feel. And you loose warranty if you do it yourself.

Overclocked GPUs from brands like Asus or EVGA are slightly overclocked, 1-2% mostly.
