graphic card (MSI-GT710-1GD3H-LP) on old OS?

Folks -
My old graphic card is now dead... (ASUS EN8400GS SILENT-P-512M)

I am thinking of buying the MSI-GT710-1GD3H-LP. We know this card works oob with Mac OS-Sierra (there is plenty of post about it).

My question is : Is there a way to make it works with my old OS-10.6.8 (config : i5-750 + GA-H55M-UD2H) or will I have to upgrade it?

No, Snow Leopard has no support for the GT710. If you want to stick with Snow Leopard, you have to find a similar old card of the same generation. To use the GT710 you will need to upgrade to at least MacOS Sierra.

See if you can find a used EVGA GTX 680/760/770 for a reasonable price. I know the GTX 680 will work. (IIRC, the 760/770 are just newer 680s.) However, I've not had a Snow Leopard 10.6.8 in a long time. BTW, the 680/760/770 are Mojave Metal compatible and use Mojave native drivers - no need for Nvidia drivers.

The much older version of the GT 710, the GT 210 works with 10.6.8. I tested my ASUS EN210 with it and it worked. They can be found on EBay.com. There are also brand new EVGA 8400GS GPUs sold on Amazon that work with Snow Leopard. Those are your two best bets for OOB compatibility. The newer version 8400GS has 1GB of vram so it should work well with a newer monitor, even a 1920 x 1200 model or dual 1080p monitors.

trs96 : unfortunately, there is no new ASUS EN210 on amazon-france!

I will probably look for a second hand graphic card. This is the easiest option and on top of it... I have no need and no time to upgrade my dinosaur-system.

Looks like Amazon.fr has one new from Gigabyte. The GT 210 should work all the way up to High Sierra if you upgrade.

Here's a new GT 210 that looks just like the one made by Asus. May just be re-branded after it's manufactured by Asus. My guess is that Foxconn makes it. Therefore they combine "A" for Asus with "Fox" for Foxconn to get the name.

I’m pretty sure I started my Hack on El Capitan with my GT710, so I don’t think you’d need to go all the way to Sierra.
