Gearing up for a new film project in August. Currently running 2x Gigabyte 7970 GPU's with 3 monitors (2=1080HD, 1=4k) on a skylake Gigabyte z170x ud5 th board. Very happy to have stable Thunderbolt 3 working on it as of 10.11.5.

Now I want to explore what the best GPU for Premiere 2015 with my setup would be on a hackintosh to enable mercury open cl or cuda acceleration.

Don't think I have time to wait for os-Sierra/driver support for Pascal or Polaris cards due to the August start date but would be elated if I could run a GTX 1080 since I could also use the card in windows with an HTC Vive. The director also wants to be able to work on the system and prefers OSX to Windows, so that is why I'm opting to run from the Hackintosh environment.

My question is to find out if anyone on a el capitan hackintosh is running Premiere 2015.2 with working Cuda or open Cl support. I haven't been able to successfully get Premiere to work with Open CL with my 7970's which show up in system report as follows:

AMD Radeon HD 7xxx:
Chipset Model: AMD Radeon HD 7xxx
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 3072 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x6798
Revision ID: 0x0000

Below is the list of certified GPU's for this purpose on Premiere:

Mac CUDA:

  • GeForce GTX 675MX
  • GeForce GTX 680
  • GeForce GTX 680MX
  • GeForce GT 750M
  • GeForce GT 755M
  • GeForce GTX 775M
  • GeForce GTX 780M
  • Quadro K5000
Mac OpenCL:

  • AMD FirePro D300
  • AMD FirePro D500
  • AMD FirePro D700
  • GeForce GT 650M
  • GeForce GT 750M
  • GeForce GT 755M
  • GeForce GTX 675MX
  • GeForce GTX 680
  • GeForce GTX 680MX
  • GeForce GTX 775M
  • GeForce GTX 780M
  • Quadro K5000
  • Intel Iris Graphics 5100
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200
Is there solid support for the Quadro K5000 on hackintoshes? I'm happy to swap out the GPU's for a better alternative if I could get the acceleration to run smoothly, but don't want to purchase the wrong cards. Also open to getting the 7970's working with Premiere open CL if anyone had any thoughts on getting my system to see them as the FirePro cards since they are the same chipset I believe. If anyone else out there is up to anything similar and has buying advice or a workaround to get the 7970's going please let me know. Premiere works fine if I turn off GPU acceleration and leave it set to software only, but then I am stuck spending a lot of time having to render my timelines, which is what I am hoping to circumvent. The latest update to Premiere 2015.3 seems to be too buggy to really make me want to dive in right away (maybe there will be some bug fixes before August that make it more stable, but if not then I plan on sticking to 2015.2. Also need to research if gtx 1080's are playing nice with Premiere yet. Cheers!!

Any 900 series Nvidia GPU will work with Premier and CUDA. My GTX 970 is detected properly and works fine.

Using Premiere Pro 2015.3, with AMD 6870. Open CL working.
