Hi,
I've successfully built one hackintosh but it's not perfect. I'm only 95% there and it does crash occasionally on boot up. This has a lot to do with my older hardware.
My plan is to start again with hardware fully compatible with MultiBeast.
I'm not after a very powerful machine (I would like to keep my Core 2 Duo E7400... if it's worth it. I also have an nVidia GeForce GT 220 1GB but I'm willing to replace as I think this is a problem with my current system).
All I want is to be able to play 720P media in iTunes smoothly.
I also need video and 2 channel sound via HDMI.
Any help on some specs and advise would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried looking through the Installation Guide section? TonyMac has made a cracking media machine:

With HDMI audio on the 240 card!

Just need to add a cooler on there that would fit in the case - prob a low profile one but I'd ask Tony !

That IS a nice system, but if someone wanted to do it with a C2D and not spend the money for the new CPU what board would they use? C2D motherboards are cheap and the C2D should be plenty fast enough for media usage. In my case I have a few spare CPU around...

Near as I can tell the Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G is the way to go? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128447

Indeed, the GA-P43-ES3G is a good choice with a dual core processor. I've built a machine with that motherboard and an E6700 and nVidia 7600 video card. Even with this low end configuration it plays 720p video using vlc with no problem.

Good luck!

Stanya, I have the exact same video card, but am struggling finding how to get audio through the HDMI. Can you help? Seems all support for HDMi audio is for the GT 240 and higher. Thanks in advance.

Breault720,
I installed VoodooHDA 0.2.56 using MultiBeast and it works fine.
Your Preferences/Sound/Output will display four HDMI's. Select the second.
You may need to change the Format (Hz) in 'Audio HIDI Setup' depending on what your HDMI is connected to.

Hope that helps a bit.
