Gigabyte Z77X-UP5TH - Chrome

I have a system running with the Gigabyte Z77X-UP5TH motherboard, running Mavericks 10.9.2. My default web browser is Chrome. If I start a video in Chrome from e.g. YouTube the sound is ok to begin with and then distorts into crackle and then stops. Without changing anything, if I run the same video in Safari I don't get the audio problem. Does anyone know what I need to do to rectify this situation, as it's quite annoying?

What kext did you install for audio?
