Comments

The graphics card has great cooling, amazing graphics output, not too expensive with rebate. Power supply is EXTREMELY quiet.

The mini Bluetooth works out of the box and does not need configuration.

The Alfa Network AWUS036H works great and fast on Lion with little tweaking for it to work.

Need to save for a wireless keyboard. I shouldn’t have sold my Apple 30” HD Cinema display. But no regrets, the ASUS VE258Q monitor shines!

I'm also still using the stock Intel cooler. I may go for a cooler if I ever plan on overclocking this machine. I built it with tight budget in mind.

All this won’t be possible without tonymacx86 and the rest of the great minds for this testing. Great work guys and more power!

Straight forward install using iBoot+MultiBeast+xMove. No additional kexts and tweaks. Running very solid folks.

do you think that the GA-Z68X-UB4-B3 motherbd can be used instead?

Not sure since I haven't tried that board. Sorry.

The -UD4 will work find if you can find it as it's not in production any more. I chose the -UD3H instead so I can see if the HD 3000 Integrated Graphics would work for my needs. So, far the HD 3000 graphics works well, and I have not needed a graphics card, yet.

stork,
i like your i7-2600k build.
it looks nice and simple.
is there a less expensive cpu that i can use?
i3 or i5
thanks in advance

An i5 is probably the best for this board. Because the Z68 UDx boards are designed for overclocking, most people are using either the i5-2500K or i7-2600K processors because you can OC the processor and the on-board graphics, too.

However, if you don't need to OC, then choose one of the i3 or i5 processors that support Intel's Integrated Graphics which means the processor supports HD 3000 graphics.

The tonymacx86 CustoMac Mini uses the i3-2105 for HD 3000 graphics which would drive a HDTV. However, I think an i5 processor would be better.

I recommend you post your question in the Buying Advice forum section as more knowledgeable people will see it and give you advice.

Is your Bluetooth completely working? Wake from sleep and everything? Do you know if it works in Lion?

Thanks

I have not tried the wake from sleep but other than that, the mini bluetooth works great. It even works on iBoot during the fresh install.
