GIGABYTE released a press release with exciting news regarding Thunderbolt 3, including offering free Thunderbolt 3 upgrades, albeit via BIOS updates. Check the source link for further details regarding which motherboards are supported.

GIGABYTE is also release an add-on card called GC-ALPINE RIDGE for added Thunderbolt connectivity in September 2016.

Impressive!

How do I sign up ? :)

sad...I went to the site and my motherboard isn't one of the ones that are authorized GA-Z97X-UD7 TH. Sad....

This is a great release from Gigabyte. However, there are limitations to board compatability. As the board has to have thunderbolt 3 support by default.

Once we have an mATX or Mini ITX board with this capability, sign me up! Been wanting to do a Mac Mini build... but missing out on thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Would love to be able to attach an external GPU.. This is my goal.

To have external GPU for Thunderbolt 3, connect to mac laptop, or a 'hack mini'

Does anyone know if there would be ay support for a GA-X99-UD4? I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have gone with an X99 platform...

Or should I just consider selling off my current board and go with something that is compatible with TB 3 and/or comes with TB 3. I've looked in the GA-X99P-SLI, any thoughts??

Thanks!

This is very good news. Additional connectivity is always good.
My board is on the list. GA-Z270X-UD5. Also good.
Bad news, they are as available here in Canada as there are parrots teeth. :)

So My card is on this list, I'm trying to get my thunderbolt working actually, but does this mean I could purchase this card and add two more thunderbolt 3's and the rest that will work with my Build? Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to get this working? I need very specific directions because I'm still learning this stuff.
