I just bought the Gigabyte Z86XP-UD3 [F8] motherboard, the Sandy Bridge i7-2600, and the Radeon HD 6870 video card to add to my 16 MB DDR3 memory and 750w power supply.

Here's a quick look at what I've done a hundred of times...

iBoot ->
Apple Snow Leopard Install ->

Reboot w/ iBoot - 10.6.3 - Have networking & Internet but no sound and video is 32-bit
256MB 1024x768. (Card is 1GB)

MACOSXUpd 10.6.6 ->
Reboot w/ iBoot - 10.6.6 - Have networking & Internet but no sound and video is 32-bit
256MB 1024x768.

MACOSXUpd 10.6.7 ->
Reboot w/ iBoot - 10.6.7 - Have networking & Internet but no sound and video is 32-bit
256MB 1024x768.

UpdateHelper ->
MACOSXUpd 10.6.8 ->
Reboot w/ iBoot - 10.6.8 - Again no audio but now the video is "ATI Radeon HD NI40"
and has memory as 1024MB running at 1680x1050@60 Hz.
Networking & Internet are working

I tried running MultiBeast and ONLY adding the UserDSDT (DSDT-GA-Z68XP.aml [F8]) and then I can't boot directly or by iBoot. It looks as if it's going to boot then the screen goes black and it justs hangs. I can only go back to re-installing Snow Leopard. I've tried adding what others with the same type of components only to end up with it not booting.

I'm sure I'm missing something here but I'm not sure what. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!

Your graphics card only works with lion and I have the same board try using unbeast with lion or do you not have another mac? And when you are booting with lion if you are having troubles try PCIRootUID=0

I tried EasyBeast and I almost fainted because it DID boot off the hard drive. The memory is now listed as 16GB but there is no audio, no networking and no Internet and the Graphics is listed as the same as when I upgraded to 10.6.8 which is Snow Leopard.

I don't have access to a Mac other than iPads and iPods. Guess I should re-install everything again and get back to 10.6.8 without MultiBeast so I have an Internet connection. Then I can get to the Apple Store and purchase Lion.

Can't download Lion... My computer can't be verified. Any ideas?

Look around the forum for posts on how to fix the hackintosh not working with the app store network, and audio need to be selected in multibeast when installing

I can't even run MultiBeast. If I just add the DSDT the monitor blanks out. If I leave out the DSDT and try other settings it either goes into an endless boot cycle or the monitor quits. I can run EasyBeast but then the ethernet doesn't work. All the solutions for the Apple Store issues needs items left by MultiBeast. It's a long drive to the closest Apple Store but getting Snow Leopard to work isn't looking so good.

The following is for you to get a clear understanding of the mac os - using switchs @ boot up - multibeast and a lot of other stuff.
If you are unfamiliar w the internal workings of the Mackintosh world I found the following web sites and videos helpful.

Thanks for all your help! I finally got Snow Leopard working 100%... Now I have to figure out if it's worth downloading Lion or wait till next week and download Mountain Lion. Any ideas on this?

Again THANKS!!!!!!!

As to the question 10.7 vs 10.8

10.7 is like 10.6 in the aspects of the kernel bing a hybrid - supports both 32/64
bit programs / kexts With added changes to the GUI.

!0.8 will only be a 64 bit - so that measn all hardware that runs in 32 bit mode will need either new hardware and kexts or if the hardware supports 64 bit mode then new kexts
these are written by the manufacture not buy Apple - So that means a lot of people will be buying the next greatest version of whatever they need.

Also the APPLE store will ship you a USB dongle to you mailing address or have it dropshipped to someone if you are Rual in nature like in the Outback

I just checked and "64-Bit Kernel & Extensions" is "Yes" so that's good. There are only a few applications that are listed as not being 64-Bit so Mountain Lion should upgrade them. I was thinking that it was stupid to pay Apple $30 for Lion and less than a week later pay them another $20 for Mountain Lion. Atleast this is what the Apple Store employee said... But he also said you couldn't really build a Mac yourself. Had to laugh at that!
