GA-X58A-UD3R SL 10.6.8 upgrading to Mavericks with problems

Alright so its Labor Day weekend. There are some sales going on so I'm gonna take a leap and buy another graphics card. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to but its worth a try. Worst comes to worst I'll have to eat a restocking fee, I can't believe what Tiger Direct said "In these hard times its hard to resell an item that has been used". I'm sure Walmart has no problem with this, I would go to Worst Buy to buy a card but they don't have any good ones.

or something similar to what I have, I really need to get this system back on track for production purposes, its funny how fast the hardware I bought that it just ages that quickly. Don't know how come I can't even download Lion but I'll see if buying another video card will suffice.

I think your headed in the wrong direction w this video card your planing to purchase.

The 560 series is an upgrade from the 280 series and is not compatible w Sno Leo.

What we need is to use a card from the WIKI that was mentioned a while ago.

What you want is to select one that has the terms Working OOB which means Out of the Box.

As most of these are not in production used ones are what your looking for to get SL working.

these have been tested but finding them now is not easy.

Two manufactures on this list Zotec and EVGA would be my preference.

I did find this one on Amazon as a used card which would be better I think than that 560.

Thanks for the recommendation of the card! The reason I was looking at the 560 is because per this page here [http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2012/03/optimizing-nvidia-geforce-4xx-and-5xx.html] it says its compatible. The 9600 card I would only buy for "testing" purposes. The card I need has to be powerful enough to handle heavy film processing work.

To install SL the low end card will work... but I am not sure that the 560 will work w SL and may require you to go to Mavericks to get it to work.
If this is you plan then OK....

Some pompass ass on craigslist wants to sell his used cards for full value. Can't believe this! After he has man handled it and maybe static shocked it, wants to sell it at full value smh.

Alright, you guys aren'g going to believe this! I can download Lion from the app store! I have the 550 ti in my system and trying to climb my way up to Mavericks! I think that someone stated something like the GTX 285 for some reason doesn't migrate over when going over to Lion. That is pretty bizarre. I'm working on getting QE to work and get out of 1024 x 768 mode but let me get over to Lion first.

So, moral of the story here, the app store doesn't like the GTX 285 and won't allow you to buy any O/S Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite for whatever reason. It's a shame I paid $300 for that card back in 2010 and now its essentially defunct.

Thanks again for having so many heads on this topic here, you may close it but keep it for those who may have my situation. If I run into any issues I'll just head on over to the proper forum.
