If you need a Flash player plugin to play some Flash content on your browser, where should you go to download it.

a. at the official Flash Player website at Adobe.com

b. at some random/questionable website (probably a porn site)

Well, 600,000 idiots chose (b).

It was much more sneaky than that. I should know, I got suckered. You vist a website. No not a porn site. There is some banner that requires flash. It says your flash needs updating, and it looks just like adobe's. When you click to update it installs, but there is one clue. The banner still says you need to update.

There seems to be variants of this. I use little snitch, and you would be surprised how often apple software calls home. Mine masquraded as .sunupdate. I always deny anything with little snitch that randomely pops up. It never got itself fully installed, but it kept trying despite reports that it deletes itself if you have little snitch. I found the components in the users/<user>/library location.

It was hard to track down, but easy enough to remove. Lesson is if a site says you need to update flash dont just click on the perfectly coppied icon. Bail out and go directly to adobe.
