Hey guys, I am new to this site. I have bought two macs a 2007 macbook and a 2013 macbook pro retina display. Love them both greatly! I have a PC it is a dell Inspiron 580 and I would like to know whether or not it is capable of being converted into a hackintosh.

There's a link to it. I am not sure of the motherboard, but I do know it has an I3 processor and 4GB of rams. Any advice as to what I should get would be helpful!!! Thanks in advance!

Looks as if that system is fairly old, how old is it?

It's probably 4 or 5 years old. I didn't think having an I3 processor was old? haha

I found the official release date, it was February 28, 2011. So it will be 3 years old this month. Is that considered old?

Yes, my objective was to install the latest OSX onto it. Will it be a problem?

If you have access to a Mac, download Mavericks and UniBeast and create a installer. Then report back. Hope you will find some success! appleweekly5:beachball:

Not likely you'll get Mavericks to run well on that old Dell. I'd try Snow Leopard first.
Use the iBoot install method. See if you can get that to work first. Good luck. If you
do get it to work upgrade to 10.6.8 via combo update and then go to the Mac App store
to see if you can download Mavericks.

If it's got a discrete graphics card in the PCIe slot there's a much better chance it
will work with Snow Leopard.

Welcome to the forums.
It should be possible to get Mavericks up and running with a suitable GPU - the onboard Intel HD graphics are not supported in OSX - a simple GT610 should be available for very little and will work with Mavericks.
Have a read over some other Dell Inspiron 580 threads (will mostly be Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion I suspect ) what to look out for is ethernet compatibility - you can use the search facility to find compatible PCI/PCIe cards. If you want better PCIe wifi, then see the buyers guide/accessories section:

I have downloaded Unibeast, but I am unable to download Mavericks, I assume its due to the fact that I am running mavericks on a 2013 macbook pro? I do believe I still have snow leopard on my other mac, will that work?
