So as I was beginning selecting my first build's components I sought to add Lion and eventually Mountain Lion. Will be using for some minor developing and using Final Cut Pro X. Here are the components. Anything overkill? More importantly anything incompatible with LION? Thanks!

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H LGA 1155

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB 1600 DDR3

HDD: Caviar Black WD1002FAEX

PSU: SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze 520W

Optical: ASUS 24X DVD Burner

FW: SYBA Low Profile PCI-Express

Case: RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black

Sorry for being a noob. I really really want to use the HD4000 Graphics and save the $$ on the GPU. Im already over budget.... THANK YOU!

The PSU is overkill. 400W more than enough.

Change the optical drive to Sony Optiarc 72xx.

MEM: Only 4GB? It will work fine but get one 4GB now and one 4GB later.

PSU: I'm running a system with that CPU and slow budget graphics card with 160W PSU.

OPTICAL: Sony Optiarc is recommended but other drives some times work. Read in the forum and wiki.

FW: It is a low profile card. Good that a bigger bracket is included.

CASE: It is your taste.

4000 isn't fully supported today but is with around 99,9% or above be fully supported in 10.8.

Sorry I meant 2x 4Gb for a total of 8.

What does a low profile card even mean? I didn't think anything of it.

My plan is to install windows 7 until ML comes out in July then install that. Out of curiosity : how will the hd4000 graphics work now on Lion? Bad? Slow? no video at all? And also what gpu are you using now?

THANKS FOR THE ANSWERS!

Low profile is designed for small cases but I have the same card and it comes with a full size bracket so you have nothing to worry about.

HD4000 should boot I believe, but you won't have gfx acceleration and maybe not full resolution (others please correct me if I'm wrong).

Also if you're looking to save money switch the HDD to a Caviar Blue (black is just noisy) and PSU to a Corsair CX430v2. Go for a 500w if you're planning to add a gfx card later.

Good luck!

So far, my build is SICK! Windows 7 is soooo fast. Thanks for all your help. Next: Install Lion with unibeast and bridghelper. Hopefully that'll be just as fast if not faster!

Quick question: The syba firewire cared you said you have is not functioning on windows 7. it is installed correctly and i installed the newest drivers off of syba's wesbite but i still cant get it to load.

What can i do to troubleshoot this? Thanks again.

I don't use win 7, so it's hard for me to say. Maybe try the card in a different PCIe slot?

It works great in Lion with no drivers needed at all. No problems whatsoever. It was just a driver problem in Windows.
