Hi all,
just wondering if some experienced eyes could check this list and let us know if there are any glaring mistakes. For instance the motherboard is supposed to support 32GB RAM, but in some places the specs say to use 4GB sticks (maxing out at 16GB)? And will the power supply have enough juice for these components?

We (2 of us) are aiming for quiet machines and will doubtfully overclock. All opinions are welcome.

Cheers,
j

OK, I looked up the power calculator, thanks for the tip ;)

The reason we went for the intel board was to try and get as close to mac specs as possible, plus we've heard that gigabyte board require some additional work after each update to get the audio/network, etc back on track.

With the graphics card, if it's from the range in the new macbooks should it not be supported?

Please excuse the noob questions

hi polobear - planning on a similat setup (only 2hdd and 560ti 2gb gpu). you really think a 500w psu would be enough? i'd like that, because a got a 4-year old 500w bequiet (high-quality) psu i could use. that extreme power calculator tells me to get at least a 430W psu. so the 500w should be fine, no?

if my psu draws to much power it shuts itself off - so the worst thing that could happen is that my system doesn't work and i need to get a stromger psu - right?

With a GT640 graphics card, a 500W PS should be more than fine.

thanks for the advice.
i'll try my old 500w psu first and look for seasonic, enermax, etc.. if it doesnt't work/behave strangely.

So maybe waiting for some more developments with the support of these GPU's is the best way to deal with that, we're not in a real hurry, we'd rather everything worked.

I hear what you're saying about the gigabyte board, at the end of the day the least amount of things we have to edit would be preferred. I remember reading somewhere that some intel board needed less work that gigabyte ones (now i can't find the article, of course).

we also chose that board for the thunderbolt port, i know gigabyte have a few boards they showed at computex last week but i contacted them and they couldn't give me any idea of when they'd be released (apparently they are waiting on intel to sign off on them or something like that).

is there anyone that has had success with an intel board?
