My external portable USB HDD's are not getting detected and showing up...any solutions?

I have the same problem. Please anyone?

Are you using USB 3 ports? On my Z170x-UD5 USB3 isn't working. But, when I connect my hard drives using USB2 they do work.
There are some solutions but not sure which ones are working. Here is one for Gigabyte motherboards: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/native-usb-2-0-usb-3-0-on-skylake.202787/

Yes, you are right. I didn't check usb2.0 before. I was able to mount my external drive on USB 2 port, although Disk Utility recognizes it as internal drive for some reason. But at least it works. And also I was able to mount the same external drive on USB 3.1 port and Disk Utility shows it as external. I can live with that for now. So the problem is only with USB 3.0 ports. I will dig in later to the link you provided. Thanks!

Here's the solution for Sierra. There's a new patch for USB to raise port limit and this seems to solve the USB 3.0 problem too. https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/usb-new-raise-port-limit-patch-for-macos-10-12-sierra.202329/
