El Captain to High Sierra

I’m trying to upgrade from El Captain to High Sierra. I’ve not been unable to do this upgrade through the App Store, so have been attempting with a High Sierra bootable USB drive (trying to follow the High Sierra install instructions)

If the display is connected via DisplayPort, it hangs on the boot screen after the progress bar reaches about 80%. If I remove the graphics card and connect by HDMI, initially I was getting a white screen, while currently upon startup I can’t progress beyond the Asus screeen, not even being able to access BIOS
