Actually, under system/library/extensions, I have a file called "BrcmPatchRam2.kext." Please NOTE THE NUMBER "2" in the file name. I mistakenly looked in the wrong place for this file when following this guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...-hp-elitebook-probook-others-clover-uefi.html

...so I didn't remove it, but so far everything appears to be working ok. Sound is ok. USB 3.0 appears to be nice and speedy.

Should I remove this file? Will bad things happen eventually? Does it matter?

I posted my update experience here if you're interested how and why I missed it the first time:

BrcmPatchRAM2.kext is used on 10.11 or greater.
BrcmPatchRAM.kext is used on 10.10 or older.

It is covered in the BrcmPatchRAM readme: https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-BrcmPatchRAM
