Drive hot swap issues

Hi,
after 10.6.3 all my drive show up as orange, yet I am not able to fully use hot swapping. I can unmount/eject the drive, but it does not show back on reconnecting. Also, the system profiler says that the drive is removable, but detachable is set to no. Is anyone able to do full hot swapping and if yes, what did you do to achieve it?

The orange drive issue is known to happen on 10.6.3. Check out Tony's blog for fixes.

It is not an issue for me, I would like to have hot swappable drives. The problem is that even if the icons are orange, true hot swap is not possible. Any advice how to enable that?
