Hey guys, this is my first build, but not...:problem: I originally posted in the "buying advice", but I think this post belongs here.

I am upgrading my parents' store bought Gateway 504GR. I plan to keep the case, optical drives, media card reader, and seagate barracuda 750gb HDD.

I plan to replace parts using the following:
ASRock H97M LGA 1150 Intel H97
APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX Power Supply
Intel Core i3-4330 Haswell Dual-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150
Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

The end game is to format the HDD and install Yosemite using unibeast. Does it look like those new components will work together (I picked them from the build guide lists so I(newb) don't see anything wrong with my selections)? I want to make sure that everything looks good to go before I spend my parents' hard earned money to work on their computer, especially since it's my first build ever.

Thanks in advance!

Can I suggest trying one of the Gigabyte or Asus boards instead?

These Asus and Gigabyte boards are easier to get running. If you already have the ASRock board then you will just have to go with it and see how things turn out. You may need to try Clover with the ASRock board. Different users are having different levels of luck with the ASRock boards.

Would you :thumbup:say:thumbdown: that it would work if I used clover? I haven't purchased the board yet but picked the ASRock because, of the suggested list, it was the lowest price. I don't intend it to be a powerhouse machine and I'm willing to put the time in:banghead: for them if it means going with a different boot program, etc. to keep things under their budget.

There is no guarantee that it will boot and run well using Clover either. If on a tight budget then have a look at the Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 as a budget option. Some of the cheaper Asus models have also been used successfully. The Gigabyte B85M-HD3 works really well and is almost bullet proof.

Thanks for the tips Adrian. I checked out those links you sent me and did end up going with the Gigabyte B85 MOBO.

Final build will be a Gigabyte B85 MOBO, i3 4430, 8gb Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM, new PSU, 120gb Kingston SDD, re-used 750gb HDD that i'll obviously format for the build (2 partitions, one for HDD and other for time machine backup of SDD). Still waiting for the MOBO to come in the mail. I'll keep you updated on how the build and install goes!!
