I bought 2 16gb sticks of Corsair Vegeance 3200 XMP for my Z170 Gaming 5 with a 4ghz i7 6700k. The ram reads as 2133 and the xmp profile 1 in Gigabyte's bios will not work (the machine reboots). From what I've read I can overclock it but I've also read that skylake can't even support it. Would I be better off returning this ram and getting 64gb of 2133?

I have similar configuration with Z270 and i5. I read post about that and they say that you can clock your memory depending on speed of your CPU. I tried to use XMP profile and clocked memory to 3000MHZ and it's work well.

Yes, Skylake supports faster RAM. If you purchased 2133MHz RAM and your computer can't boot with it at that setting, return it.
