strange as it has worked for me an also a lot of other people

you did empty the trash as well?
yes i did, maybe i should clear the cache?
Have you tried using alternative images for your desktop background/wallpaper?

Care to zip and post a copy of the two images you are currently trying to use.

As you know I am running Ventura on a similar Haswell Hack, so there shouldn't be a major differences in how the two systems are configured, especially not for Wallpaper settings. We can at least rule out the images as being the cause of the current issue.

I assume you posting copies of these images is not going to cause any issues!
see attached files ( 1st one is .jpg the 2nd one is .png)

Well they both work just fine on my system.

I downloaded and added the two images to my Pictures folder.
  1. Navigated to the System Settings > Wallpaper preference pane/tab
  2. Selected jhj.jpg as the wallpaper for display 1
  3. Selected cicci2.png as the wallpaper for display 2

  4. Closed System Settings app.
Took a screenshot of the two displays with the new wallpapers in place.

I then selected to 'Shutdown' the system.
I then Started the system.
The jhj.jpg image was used as the background on my Login screen.
Logged in and both images were present and correct on each display.

So no idea why you would be having issues using these images for your desktop wallpaper.

I quite like the jhj.jpg image, so I might use it as my desktop wallpaper for a while. Although I have downsized it, to fit a 2560x1440 screen and saved it as a PNG image, which cut the size of the image to 3.5MB from 7.8MB. While animals shown in the cicci image are cute, it's not really my cup of tea for a desktop wallpaper.

tried with the downsized jhj.jpg pic but still no luck... just losing hope on that.
i should re-install ventura maybe, what would u suggest?

Yes a lot smaller, 840kb against 3.5MB.

Surprisingly you can't really see much difference between the two when viewed at 2560x1440 resolution.
