Hi,

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2650 and a PowerEdge 1650 2850 that I think it would be pretty cool to try to get OS X running on. They're both using Xeons I believe, but I don't have the actual tech specs handy at the moment. What do you think the chances of this working are?

edit: it's a 2650 and a 2850, not a 2650 and a 1650. also, this maybe even harder than i thought since the 2650 seems completely incapable of even booting from a cd.

run viewtopic.php?t=3187 my script (release 1.0.8 at this moment)
and report hackintosh-hardware-your-hardware.txt

whit this script you learn all you want from your server

ah excellent script, thank you.

i've attached the txt file for the 2850 (i still can't boot from cd on the 2650). let me know if you'd like the see the other generated files.

ICH5 it's old ...
no audio detected
raid controler i don't known
Model: FUJITSU MAP3367NC (scsi) it'a raid aray ?

yes it's an old rackmount server. it supports RAID, but i don't have it setup in a RAID configuration right now.

well after a lot of playing around with different options, i haven't moved forward very far. i decided to try a leopard build, since i've read it has better scsi support.

at the moment i'm trying tony's alternative guide #1 (using Leopard instead of SL, naturally). my problem at this point is that once the bootloader comes up and starts trying to load the system, it runs for a few seconds and then reboots, creating a dreaded reboot loop.

i'm trying to track down the cause of this now, but i know there are a lot of things that could be wrong, so it's a bit difficult. i'll probably try my hand at DSDT editing soon to see if i can get somewhere with that.

suggestions/help very much appreciated as always.

I doubt it will ever work since that motherboard chipset, ServerWorks® GC-LE, was never supported by Apple.

that's the chipset for the 2650, but the 2850 (which i'm working on first) uses the Intel E7520 chipset i believe. is there a list of apple-supported chipsets somewhere?

i've gotten further since my last post. i realized my processor was sse2 not sse3, and that the vanilla leopard install only supported sse3. so, i used the kernel patcher at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... opic=67996 to modify the kernel. i'm not in a reboot loop anymore. instead i'm getting a kernel panic (actually a "double panic") during boot, following these lines:
Loaded HFS+ file: [Extra/Extensions/PlatformUUID.kext/Contents/MacOS/PlatformUUID] 26448 bytes from 425560.
No DSDT found. Using 0 as uid value.
ATI VGA Controller [1002:5159] :: PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1e,0x0)/Pci(oxd,0x0)
old pci command - a7
boot display - 0
dumping pci config space, 256 bytes
Wrong BIOS signature: 0000
Not going to use bios image file
Found bios image
Adding binimage to card 5159 from legacy space with size b000
Loaded HFS+ file: [/Extra/smbios.plist] 1119 bytes from 4255560.
Patched DMI Table.
No DSDT replacement found. Leaving ACPI data as is

i'm hoping this is something i can remedy by adding/modifying a dsdt and maybe modifying the smbios.plist.

even if it never ends up working, it's interesting and definitely a good way to learn about lots of different things.

The extract you posted is the Chameleon output; what would be interesting in terms of seeing what OSX is unhappy about would be a picture of the panic screen/text.
DSDT etc edits may be needed, or various kexts to work around issues, but that comes down to where/what is panicing. Try booting verbose (-v) to get the panic info...

Yup, I did boot with -v and took video of the output, so I can post some screencaps of the panic tomorrow. Nothing about it stuck out to me as particularly helpful, but maybe you guys will be able to make more sense of it.

Thanks!
