I did sudo nvram = "nv_spanmodepolicy=1" and toggled the nvidia menu bar from nvidia driver to osx and back to nvidia. I suppose i could have written it in one line, but wasn't sure if i needed a comma between arguments.

nvram -p

I bought an used GTX 970 (this one) for the time being, tested fresh and vanilla installs of 10.11.6 and 10.12 with Clover and it works *almost* out of the box with 5k.
SMBIOS iMac 14,2
nv_spanmodepolicy=1 kext-dev-mode=1

Only requirement: The monitor has to be off until OSX boots to the login screen. Powering the monitor on after complete boot shows correct 5k resolution.
If the monitor stays on during the boot process, OSX will recognize two separate screens.

I noticed that with 10.12, once the monitor goes to sleep, it doesn't wake up again, but the system is responsive. No such problem with 10.11. So I'll stay on 10.11 until Sierra has its bugs ironed out.

I also tried everything i could find on the net.. but only solution that works for me is to restart 5k dell monitor after restart..
its ok if i'm on my workplace because i restart my computer only once every few weeks... but sometimes i'm away and working through googles remote desktop.. and if i do restart through it, and there is noone who can restart my display.. than i have 3 displays in my remote screen :) (i have second smaller monitor which works fine all the time)

Would be nice if someone finds a solution to this ...

--> doesn't work for me like this.

I've a GTX980 and a Dell UP3214Q (4k) with Sierra (iMac14,2) - with Displayport it only boots to a black screen, with HDMI it boots up correctly. If i change the cables then to DP the Resolutions stays at 4k like it should.
Problem is i want 60Hz and only DP1.2 provides this. Are there any solutions to this?

Seems like there is a solution - maybe. Haven't tried out yet. Also there is a difference between MFT and SST- 4kMonitor.

I want that 4k@60Hz on DP1.2 - why did apple disable it?

My problem also expands, since my Dell monitor has no HDMI 2.0-port. Otherwise there would be a solution to buy a dingle/adapter i read elsewhere.

Other possible solutions:
