Date Added field not working

I was trying to fix my home folder's (and within) permissions after I messed them up. After many hours I finally managed to get it to work properly but in the process I've lost the date added field. What I mean is that files copied around or downloaded have the date added field empty for some reason. It's not user related, tried it with another account too.

It must be some problem coming from me trying to fix the permissions but I don't know where to look.

Why I didn't use the disc's repair home folder ALCs etc. ? Because I have my /users mounted to another disc and it doesn't work.

Any experts out there that know anything about my problem?

Fixed it...

For anyone that stumbles into this from google, it was spotlight that was not working properly. After making sure permissions for /Library and ~/Library were ok I deleted and rebuilt the spotlight index and "date added" started working but not immediately, after a few hours.
