CustoMac 2010 - Ram errors on cold boot

Status
Not open for further replies.
I tried all settings advices but I still have errors with OCZ's.

I've just ordered the corsair TR3X6G1600C8D sticks.

I I do not encourage buying the OCZ one with the gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R.

I read the gigabyte forum http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,3100.225.html on which you write and they confirms Cold boot bug. They report that FC update does not resolve it.

On mac system software my ram is note as OCZ3G1600LV2G but on the ram package they are OCZ3G1600LV6GK

I think the V6GK is specified for the 3 dram kit

The LV6GK means Low Voltage 6 Gigabyte Kit - hence the 2G is each stick on it's own - when you buy all 3 you get a 6 Gig Kit.

Anyways - has your Corsair arrived yet?

I will receive them today.
Do you have specific bios settings for this kit ?

So the RAM has XMP Profiling which should set a lot of the settings for you but I was told that it's much better to set them all your self.

On first boot I'd use the XMP profile to set all of your timings for you but I would manually put in your voltages below. Do a quick 1 pass Memtest - if everything is OK then go in and set all of your timings manually. From speaking to Overclock specialists - it's more stable to set your timings manually than to use the XMP profile. I have my DRAM set to 1.66 and QPI/VTT to 1.355.

So in the memory section - set the memory timings to QUICK mode and go and put in all the RAM 8-8-8-24 for Channel A, then set the memory timings to EXPERT and go into channels B and C and check that they are the same as A on 8-8-8-24 .

From reading I'd go in and change command rate to 2 for all chips. Looks like it might to command rate 1 but I'd put it at 2 for the moment until you've checked they are stable.

Then try running Memtest for 10 passes or overnight to check that everything is working fine.

Then you'll have to wait a day or so to test the cold boot straight into Memtest but I hope this works for you !

I've just installed the sticks and pass with success a one pass test.
I will do a long test during the night.

I get RAM errors on hot boot in memtest (I've not tested the cold boot yet). it starts to do a lot of RAM problems...
I changed the settings manually but I keep the XMP profile enable. May I disable it ?

Yes, you can disable.

Try loading optimised defaults in BIOS and setting RAM settings manually as per Corsair instructions above. If it is still failing then test each RAM cstick 1 by 1 to work out if it's a bad stick in the pack. Also you can move the RAM sticks from the 1st slot to check that it isn't a bad slot on the motherboard.

Sorry to hear this man, I was really hoping you'd be all clear now.

Thanks.

I test my sticks and one of them produce some errors in mem test.
I will change it.

nevertheless, they do not bug on cold boot.

Thx.
