Hey guys,

Im new here and looking into building a Hackintosh. I was wondering if anyone has had success with or knows if the new i9 8th get processors will be fine in a build.

Also from what I've read Mac OS doesn't work 100% on a hackintosh. What percentage would you guys say it does/ what issues have you run into. I've read that iMessage is hard to get working. can it be done?

Thank you all

Running reasonably well on my Alienware 17R5 Core I9 laptop, only things I can't get working properly is brightness control and sleep mode. Even installed Mojave which worked too apart from the lack of Nvidia Web drivers.

I’m trying to install Mojave on my Alienware 17 r5
(Intel Core i9-8950HK)

You got her working... Kindly, fill me in.

The Apple install splash is as far as I’ve gotten.

Cheers,
- Noa

I thank you for posting this. It helped me install High Sierra 10.13.2 on my Alienware 17 R5. It is similar configuration to yours, except it's i7-8950. I was able to install, then use older nvidia web drivers to enable my nvidia 1070.

However I am now unable to update High Sierra. I have tried 10.13.6 combo, then tried 10.13.3 combo, but to no avail. Every time I install, it seems to go through ok, but when it reboots, it goes right back to 10.13.2, saying there was an error in the install.

Also, do you have a solution to use the keyboard? I had to use my macally keyboard to input, the laptop keyboard just doesn't work. Although all USB ports are fine, and of course a USB keyboard works.

Please let me know anything that may help. Thank you!

I redid the install from scratch and I was able to make it work. The problem with my first install was that I restored a time machine backup from my old hackintosh, and I think those drivers conflicted with the updates. So I redid it from scratch by formatting my drive, fresh install, then used your EFI to start up. After 10.13.2 installed, I then installed Nvidia web drivers, updated with 10.13.6 combo update, and installed new Nvidia web drivers again. I was also able to get the main keyboard to work also. Sound didn't work, I figured out that my voodoohda.kext was from 2015 (my old hackintosh) and so I updated with the new one and sound works. So now it works well, just no wifi but I got a wifi USB unit. It was a process but I'm glad I got it all to work. Thanks again for the EFI, without those I wouldn't have been able to boot the USB or start up after install.

Everything working fixed USB as well. Really thankful for this thread and user ljwflysky!
