Closest Mac to my system build

Hi, I'm looking to fix iMessage on my computer, but each time I do, I end up misconfiguring the config.plist file and destroy my bootloader. Its an easy fix for me since I made an extra boot pendrive and can just replace the file, but I really want to get iMessage working and I dont know how. I'm using

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz
4Gb DDR2 RAM
Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L motherboard
PNY GeForce 9800 GT
Logitech G430 Headset for audio
On-Board Ethernet for internet, occasionally use iPhone 6 Personal Hotspot
Other than iMessage and iCloud, the hackintosh works perfectly fine and runs really smoothly so I'm not sure if its a hardware problem
Any solutions to both of my problems?

This doesn't help me with my main problem, which is that I can't figure out what Mac system is closest to my build. I've read that guide a few times now

When in doubt, stick with the MacPro3,1 - tried & true, especially for an older system like yours.
