I'm painfully close to having a fully functional system! Most programs work great, but some programs immediately crash when I try to start them. Here are a few.

  1. Sketch 3, crash report
  2. The Hit List, crash report
  3. OmniGraffle is another program that crashes, but they have their own crash handler that doesn't show the actual report.

I don't know what the dysfunctional programs have in common. Or maybe they each have a different underlying cause, for all I know. Anyway, I hope somebody can help!

Here's the details of my system:

OS: Mavericks (10.9.2)
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 512GB SSD
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB
Power Supply: Corsair professional 750W 80+ Gold

I used UniBeast to install, and then MultiBeast. Followed the guides for my motherboard, which recommended that I have my system identify as the iMac from late 2013.

And here's my plist:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

</plist>

So... any ideas? I'd definitely appreciate it!

When you say crash do you mean they just don't start? How do they crash?

Have you tried repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility? I've found that it helps correct some system issues.

Yes, many times. No luck.

When you say crash do you mean they just don't start? How do they crash?

Yes, that's correct. They simply don't start. Instead, when I try to launch these particular programs, I immediately get a standard crash handler dialog, like this:

If it's just those 3 apps that are causing you problems I would suspect it may be a comparability problem with Mavericks. I assume you've checked the support forums for each? I'll also ask you a question that doesn't need to be answered; are all 3 apps acquired through legitimate means?

All the apps in question work fine on my old MacBook Pro, which is running Mavericks. And I can't see any problems in their forums that seem to pertain to my situation.

And to answer your question, it's all legally obtained software. No cracks, keygens, warez, or any of that.

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this, by the way.

I believe I have solved the problem.

Solution: Get the Nvidia web drivers, as detailed over in this thread. There is a version of the driver on Nvidia's website more current than what is listed in the thread, but that newer version wouldn't install for me. Instead, I grabbed this one and then simply upgraded. Required a grand total of two restarts, but it couldn't have been easier.

Explanation: I knew that my graphics card, a Nvidia GTX 780, was listed as possibly having issues for some people. Those issues are related to OpenCL not working, which can cause programs to crash. The reason I dismissed this was because other programs that used OpenCL were working just fine, like Adobe software. Clearly I was premature with my dismissal of this! My guess is that the programs that used OpenCL but still worked just didn't use OpenCL all the time, or at least not while the program was being launched.

So anyway, all is now well. This battlestation is now fully armed and operational. :)

Thanks for helping my troubleshoot this.
