I'd assume it has something to do with the way OS X is reading your SATA interface- if it's SATA. If it's IDE, same- but it's the ATA driver instead. Might look around for similar systems to yours and see if it's happening to all of them. More details on the make of the CD drive would probably help- then you can search for it.
