Catalina; display won't shut off

I just updated my Asrock Z37m-ITXac/Coffee Lake i7/UHD 630 to Catalina and now the display won't shut off. It goes dark, but the LED backlighting on my Philips display stays on. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? TIA.

is it a display problem or mac not sleeping problem? certainly not a graphics problem
