Carbon Copy - bootable backup?

I used Carbon Copy to back up my Snow Leopard installation prior to installing Lion, but found that I couldn't boot into it until I installed Eastbeast with the backup copy as the target. Is this to be expected, or should the CC backup boot without this?

after back up ,just run chimera to your back up drive , if your hdd external then change boot first to usb hdd in bios .
