Hello,

I am running Big Sur on a laptop and I am trying to upgrade the RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB but I can't get the OS to respond properly. Any time I install the 8 GB stick the OS runs for about 5 minutes before it just freezes and I have to restart. I have tried two different 8 GB sticks and once I put back in the 4 GB it work fine again. I have also tested the 8GB ones in another computer. Any ideas why this would happen?

Thanks.

I am doing Xcode development on this machine so more RAM is fairly important to me. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

my only suggestion is to make sure the speed of the new ram is equal or faster than the ram you took out.

Ok, the 8GB RAM is only 1333 MHz and the one I took out is 1600 MHz so I guess that's my problem. Unfortunately there's only one RAM slot in the computer so I can't try another 4GB stick. I suppose I'll get a faster 8GB.
