Can someone please explain this KP error.(SOLVED)

Hello,

I'm trying to install SL, from retail cd 10.6 on my Shuttle X38 and no matter which boot cd i use, I get this KP.

Specs:

Shuttle X38
C2Q 8400 stock speed
4 GB ram
XFX 6870 ref board
80gb WD VR
All possible BIOS settings done as indicated by TonyMac guide.
Commands used, -x -v PCIRoot=1 CPUS=1 all the way to CPUS=4 busratio 8 GraphicsEnabler=no and also tried yes.
All these parameters used in all possible combinations, at the end, same error.

this happens before the graphical installer even load.

Am guessing that it's related to cpu threads etc. Not sure whether it makes any difference to kernel, but did you try cpus=1 (rather than CPUS=1)?

Hmm, I always noted people saying to use CPUS, instead of cpus.

Nope, that failed too.

Tried cpus=1 and -cpus=1, same result.

Any other suggestions?

Is there anything in BIOS that you can disable, like cores? Sorry no idea what Shuttle X38 is. Still thinking it's somehow CPU related...which might of course not be the real problem!

Only other idea I have is that Chameleon is seeing the C2Q and telling kernel it's something that's not "nice" in combination with the rest of the pre-boot configuration (SMBIOS etc), but I have no experience of those chips though.

You might want to search or post over at Insanelymac where there's (perhaps more) people using older hardware/been at it for longer.

Shuttle X38 is a barebone system using Intels X38 chipset with ICH9R.

It just weird, since according to all hardware databases, all included hardware is osx compatible.

Will try to wipe the BIOS and try one more time.

If not, I guess I will have to wait until I get an I5.

Well, this is something I never seen before.

After a BIOS reset, all errors went away and I'm typing this from SL 10.6.7.

Now all I need is to add the proper kext for audio and video and i should be fine.
