Yes thats how it works - Some people use a 4 gb but I prefer a 8 gb usb stick

Also did you do any testing w the NVenabler and the tonymacx86 NVupdate files from the Download section Legacy - Other archive local.
when at 10.6.6
w that gfx 560 card try this -v -f PCIRootUID=1 npci=0x2000

their is a thread here that covers it - rather long but worth it -

But still the issue is that the 560 is not really a osx10.6 card more of a 10.7 10.8 card.

Hi,
I just zeroed a HD and installed SL - nothing else.
Used update helper and tried the correct combo update of 10.6.8.
Within seconds of install it has an error.
Here is the last few lines from log.

evdv - yes they do - that why I use and 8gb one as certain manufactures - cheat you on their claimed capacity - so more is better that not enough.

One question
how are you appling these Apple updates - are you downloading them from Apple Support or use the Automatic Update from the Finder,

Also have you tried to use 10.6.7 update instead of 10.6.8, a lot of users have had better results w this version instead of 10.6.8 and you can use this to get to the App store and update to ML - in my case I went to Lion from that level when I installed Lion on a 2nd Drive.

Also please list your hardware build in your Signature Block under your settings.

Hi, One update was from local Apple store on USB, the other was a download -not an update.
10.6.7 for GPU support ? or Entry to Lion ,for GPU support ?

evdv- Ok so looking at this - you have the 10.6.3 installed on your vol and then the Update Helper is installed
And As we see below you start to run the MSXOSXUpdateCombo 10.6.8
Which starts and looks at your Mac Vol "hack2" - check for space - created the temp location (pointer) to extract -
and it tells us that it will install 14 packages -

This is where it all falls down, we see that the package OSXUpdCombo10.6.8 is untrusted and has an underlying error.
Then it says something about a DOMAIN - Statys Error Domain Code and provides the user id it created initally on install and states it cant be completed w a CSSMERR_TP_CERT_EXPIRED
Then the installer states it failed...and it tells us that it faile and then Displays the Install Failed UI - w and Unknow Installation error on screen.

What this dosent tell us and I wish it would check this first is that Apple has placed a faile experation date in each of the Updates from support - so if you look at File Info you should see an experation date - somewhere around Feb 23 2012 ( I think)

All we need to do is to change the system date to before the experiation date - Say Feb 20 of 2012 and then run the Combo Update - once done - change the date and then rum MULTIBEAST w your optinos needed to restore kexts you need to boot.

Try this and see it it works.

Hi,!
Been busy repairing other Macs.
Got time today to test again.
Zeroed the HD,Installed SL,Set clock back,took 3 goes ,but I have it going on 10.6.8 !!!!
Installed my DSDT, Threw every Voodoo sound driver from MBeast 3.10.1 LOL
Got sound but was a little scratchy - solved by opening prefs and checking USESSE2
Its Voodoo 2.7.2.
The Lan went without adding anything.
I had added a TP link card as I was having probs on earlier builds.
Really nice to see it going again.
Scared to attempt drivers for my HD5850 or get Lion LOL.
Ill clone drive and give a go soon .

Here is what I did.

Zeroed a drive
With the 5850 in 16x slot
Installed SLep
Set date back to 20 feb 2012
Ran update helper
Installed 10.6.8
Restart
10.6.8 has support for this card.
Run P-Fix
Running great
