Motherboard
Gigabyte Z97x-UD7 TH
CPU
i7-4790K
Graphics
RX 580
Mobile Phone
  1. iOS
Yosemite 10.10.4
Gigabyte GA-Z97x-UD7-TH
Core i7-4790K
LG UH12NS30 BD-ROM

I cannot burn a disc to save my life!
I would like to be able to burn a disc through the finder, but have also tried using "Burn". Both methods result with error codes & unsuccessful burns.

I've tried moving the SATA connection which resulted in no change.

System Profiler shows the drive: "Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support)"

Disk Utility shows: Disk Description : HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW UH12NS30
Connection Bus : ATAPI
Connection Type : Internal
Burn Support : Unsupported

Would greatly appreciate any information.
I'm just trying to burn a DVD-R (not BlueRay)

Thanks so much!

EDIT: Also wanted to add that I built two of these machines with the exact same components and neither will burn cds or dvds

Your drive is a reader not a writer?

So it is. Maybe it's just not compatible.

Do you have the latest firmware ?

This drive is listed in the Buyer's guide, so I assumed that it would be compatible?
I have not updated the firmware and am not sure how to tell which firmware is currently installed. I just downloaded the latest firmware but I do not have any version of windows installed. It seems Windows is necessary in order to update the firmware.

Definitely should be compatible in that case.

Maybe if you moved it to a different SATA port ?
