I bought a small speaker too, total with expedited shipping was $21 for anyone interested.

I'll try it out, put it all in a nice little project box and throw a video up when I can!
I know, $20 for a start-up chime, I'll just not go to Starbucks this week.

Hope it works ok - $20 over here will just about buy me enough fuel to get to the nearest starbucks (coffee not included).

Relavent to my interests as well having used a Sawtooth case for my build. If there was a way to integrate the original speaker from the case as well would be worth it too.

I guess there must be ways to trigger an apple script or unix script that plays a sound as soon as the audio drivers/kexts are initialized. This'd not be on startup but slightly later but long before login/desktop. Thus if your are not into hardware modification you might try that.
