Booting error with i7-950 + GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0 + XFX 6870

This part of the forum looked the most appropriate to post this, sorry if I'm wrong.

My build:

Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz
GIGABYTE GA-X58A - UD3 REV.2.0
Mushkin Silverline 12GB 3x4GB (998770)
XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB (HD-687A-ZNFC)
Cooler Master Elite
V-Force Seventeam 750W
Seagate 1 TB 2700 RPM
Sony Optiarc 24X DVDRW

I followed tonymac installation guide here

and in step 8, Utilities/Disk Utilities, the system shows this error after many minutes of a blank screen

Memory allocation error! Assr=0x0. Size 0x8002790, File=device_inject.c, Line 246
This is a non recoverable error! System HALTED!!!

Is this a hardware problem only? Can anyone help me figuring out what this is?

Are you trying to use a new HDD? I got that error message only after I had to reinstall OSX on my SSD. First install was almost perfect but I had to redo it because I messed up a bunch of kexts for my ATI video card. So the second time I had to reinstall all I kept getting was that error message. What I did was throw a new HDD in for the install and when I got to the screen to do the utilities I swapped out the HDD for the SSD and then went from there. Don't know if it's the right way but it worked for me.

eelhead, yes it is a new (empty) HDD. I will double check everything on the guide and try the installation again.
