I have a perfectly running Mavericks system on a Supermicro X9DAi with 2 Xeons.

But after cloning the startup disk the boot hangs on
boot file path: System\Library\CoreServices\boot.efi
..

cloning process is as follows:
1) clone the perfectly working Clover Mavericks startup disk with carbon copy cloner
2) run clover
3) mount EFI of new disk and copy contents of old startup disk to it

even with booting to the clover screen with the old disk and then selecting the new disk results in a hang.

any ideas?

Do you have any custom configurations designating boot volumes in the config.plist?

so turns out that there was a "boot.efi" specified in the "Default Loader" section of the config.plist.
Once I deleted the entry booting went flawless
