Hi,

sorry if I do a double post here. I really searched for some information about my problem, but only found confusing statements.

I would like to enable bluetooth on my Airport Qualcomm AR928X 168C:002A device. It runs out of the box on OSX 10.9.4. As far as I remember it was activated once, but the bluetooth device is not "not accessible" and also no bluetooth prefs panel. Maybe I don't remember correctly.

Is it possible to activate bluetooth on that device? Will this help: https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Atheros-3k-Firmware ?

Thank you.

Yeah, thanks, but linking to the starter topics doesn't help me at all here...

I read those topics, also half mini pcie wlan v2, but it is still not clear to me...

If you only need WiFi, AR9280 (AR5BHB92) is a good choice and is supported natively.

Closely related to AR9280, is AR9285 (AR5B195). It is usually bundled with AR3011 bluetooth, which unforunately, is a poor bluetooth implementation for OS X. It also lacks 5Ghz as compared with AR9280.

What does " is a poor bluetooth implementation" exactly mean? Is it possible to get it working, or not? Not worth the effort?

Thanks.

The FAQ contains links to the kexts you need. Please read it carefully.

Poor BT means "not very compatible with OS X". First, AR3011 is only BT3. Advanced BT features (such as handoff, power control through menu bar, etc) require Broadcom hardware (with BT4LE for handoff). Reports that it does not work very well with certain Apple products (magic trackpad, magic mouse, etc) are widespread.
