Black screen after recent Sierra upgrade (Probook 450 G1)

I apologize if this is a duplicate, but a search of the site did not shed any light on the matter.

I am still using Sierra in my Probook, but a recent upgrade broke something. Now the screen dims to black right after the apple logo and can't get the screen to brighten up even after booting. Disabling FakePCIID_Intel_Gbx.kext seems to solve the problem, but then I lose control over the screen brightness. Any advice?

Read FAQ, "Problem Reporting" again. Carefully. Attach all requested files/output.

Use the gen_debug.sh tool mentioned in the FAQ, that way it is less likely you'll omit something.

Note: Your laptop does not use FakePCIID_Intel_GBx.kext. Perhaps you failed to follow the guide:
