Hey guys, First time builder here

Because of this I'm using the Pro Build recommended here: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/search/label/CustoMac. Running a 80gb SSD (OPerating system) and 2tb for storage aswell.

I do a lot of video/photo editing for work (I know I could build a better system for this, I don't have the money at the moment and this is an experiment for me, not using it as my primary for the time being).

I use G-Tech externals for work. So what in you opinion is the best eSATA and Firewire 800 Cards that you have used? Have any problems come up with using eSATA and firewire on these machines?

Sonnet Allegro FW800 PCI Card for G5

This firewire card is plug and play its designed to work in a G5 PCI Slot but works in the standard pci slot as well even though the second bank of pins overhangs the slot and all three 800 ports work great. You just have to make sure your motherboard will allow for the overhang as some have heatsinks and such in the way.

Maybe some with Chipset TI :?:

Thanks for the recommendations and advice guys. Time to build.

I am using this PCIe card.

Has worked from 10.6.8 through 10.7.2.
I use a MRA200B SATA Internal Mobile Rack (Single Swappable SATA HD bay) for slip in 3.5 drives. Accessible from front with simple open door, remove and slide in drive. Only $22.00. Have to reboot to remove and install a drive, but it works for storage drives and cloning. I have tried a couple of eSATA cards and still had to reboot to change drives. It does require an empty 5.25 bay, so I chose a case with 3 - 5.25 bays. Allows 2 DVD MultiDrives and the bay.
