Hey,

I have analog audio working ( :D ) using the LegacyHDA 889a 6 output kext from Multibeast and Tony's stock DSDT. I have three outputs listed in Sound. If I connect my orange port on the back to a single analog input set of speakers I have sound when I set the first "line out" option in sound.

To me it looks like there are 6 ports on my board so I went with that.

Is there a "better" solution that enables the digital out? It sounds like if you want to go digital there is a $25 USB device that is probably the simplest way to do that.

But I couldn't find cheap speakers that take an optical out. Any one know of any?

The internal speakers output on mine with the same kext runs the green port. That's what I've been using for my desktop speakers.

I switched so that I can do green to green, like you do. Thank You. Audio works great. Have you tested optical out for audio? Has anyone?

It is not a big deal as you can always get that USB adapter, but it is something to aspire to.

I've just finished some pretty exhausting audio testing on my 889a / P55M-UD4. I found a solution that does exactly what I want. I believe that it may also work for many of you. I have attached a zip file that includes the latest F8 DSDT with CMOS fix from MacMan, plus screenshots (see the .pdf and .docx files) of Sound Preferences, Audio Midi Setup, and System Profiler, plus descriptions of the actual results I saw and heard from each kext, and copies of all of the tested LegacyHDA kexts.

I settled on the LegacyHDA found here (It's LegacyHDA.kext in the zip file):

It gave me digital and analog output without popping or other issues. The front headphone jack also works and automatically switches the other outputs on/off.

Edit: The tests above were done with the vanilla 10.6.3 AppleHDA.kext. I tried two of the LegacyHDA.kexts with the 10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext and nothing was different.

DVD Player also outputs Dolby Digital through the digital output with the above LegacyHDA.kext. You'll need to change the DVD Player sound preferences to the digital output, but otherwise it works perfectly.

Want to confirm that this seems to work with my mobo as well. I haven't tested anything but the speaker (green) output though

edit: headphone switching works
