So why would Apple not try and safe a few bucks and use the integrated Intel graphics instead?
Surely for the lower end models it would be good enough.

Don't know but would be nice if it were...bluetooth and WiFi on a simple card like that would be excellent, already have the adapter...

Did a bit more research and turns out its only a WiFi card. Page 1 they take out WiFi card, on page 2 step 15, they take out the bluetooth module, check it out:
